OpenRouter sign-in, step by step

OpenRouter is one account that reaches models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and others. Tentaku connects to it without you copying a key:

Open Settings → Your AI and choose “OpenRouter — sign in once, every model (easiest)”.
Click “✨ Sign in & connect — no key to copy”. OpenRouter’s own page opens in a Tentaku window.
Sign in to OpenRouter (or create an account) and approve Tentaku.
The window shows “🐙 Tentaku is connected”. Close it — the key has installed itself.
Press Test. The header shows AI ✓.

You approve Tentaku on OpenRouter’s own page; the key installs itself. One account covers Claude, GPT and Gemini models.

What happens behind the scenes

The whole sign-in finishes on your computer. Tentaku opens a short-lived receiver on your own machine, OpenRouter hands the approval back to it, and Tentaku exchanges it for a key that’s stored encrypted in Documents/Tentaku. tentaku.app is never involved and never sees the key.

Paying for it

OpenRouter is pay-as-you-go: add credit on OpenRouter and each request is charged at the model’s rate. Tentaku’s default (Balanced) model there is anthropic/claude-haiku-4.5, which keeps a lecture to cents; Best uses anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5. OpenRouter is separate from a ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro subscription.
